Aglaya, the youngest daughter of General Epanchin, is remarkably beautiful, intelligent, but endlessly capricious, fierce, and childlike.
All of society sees her as a perfect bride candidate. However, like Nastasya, she rebels against narrow social molds. She falls for Prince Myshkin but is equally ashamed of his oddities, which is why she constantly mocks him. Dreaming of an ideal man with a 'knightly' spirit, Aglaya cannot swallow her pride at the Prince's pity for another woman. With the hysteria she experiences in the final moments, she is forced to leave the Prince and is driven toward her disaster by escaping with a fake count through tragic choices.
