Katniss's closest hunting partner in the Seam. He lost his father in the same mining accident that took Katniss's father, and he has taken refuge in the woods because he is responsible for caring for his three younger siblings and pregnant mother. He is an intelligent, angry, and brave boy full of the spark of political rebellion.
When he was sixteen, he met the skinny 12-year-old Katniss in the woods, and with the silent trust between them, they combined their strengths (Gale's traps, Katniss's hunting arrows) to establish a good system that dominated the Seam market.
He has the same Seam physiology as Katniss, with straight black hair, olive skin, and rebellious gray eyes. His very handsome face is often equipped with furrowed brows and the strength of a mine worker.
