Although Peeta had a safer childhood as the baker's son in District 12, he grew up in an environment of domestic violence. After being chosen for the Games, he makes up a 'great love' story with his charisma and oratory skills to keep both himself and Katniss alive. While his combat skills are not as good as Katniss's, he possesses an incredible ability to communicate, compassion, and stubbornness. With his mastery of camouflage in the mud, he was able to endure for days without dying from blood loss and managed to reunite with Katniss.
