D'Artagnan comes from a poor but noble family in the province of Gascony. He sets out for Paris with an heirloom sword his father gave him, a laughable yellow horse, and a letter of recommendation addressed to the captain of the Musketeers. Despite having this letter stolen in the town of Meung by the Cardinal's agent, Rochefort, he does not compromise his courage. With the support provided by Monsieur de Tréville, he adapts to Paris. The fact that he argued with and challenged the kingdom's three fiercest musketeers—Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—to duels one after another in just a single day sums up his impulsive and daring nature. He wins the unbreakable friendship of the trio by joining them in a major clash with the Cardinal's men and demonstrating incredible swordsmanship. Later, he falls passionately in love with the beautiful Madame Bonacieux, a servant of the Queen, and finds himself at the very center of secret, dark missions that will save the state.
Born and raised in Gascony, D'Artagnan grew up learning how to use a sword and memorizing his father's rules of knighthood. His father fought extensively during the time of King Henry IV and instilled in him the principle: 'Die if you must, but never back down.'
A young man with long, dark facial features and excessively large, prominent cheekbones. Although his body is not bulky, he has a resilient, wiry build. Initially, he wears an old, purple-reddish woolen cardigan and a beret adorned with feathers. He moves with extreme agility in battle and carries an enormously long sword.
