A penniless Parisian poet, philosopher, and playwright. When his 'Moral Representation' written in honor of the kingdom is ruined, he falls into the streets of Paris, desperate and hungry. When he enters the Court of Miracles and is about to be executed, he is saved from hanging by Esmeralda's pity for him, but their relationship is more of a sibling bond than a real marriage. He is intelligent but quite prone to being pragmatic and selfish; he values staying away from the danger of death above all else. Although he later takes an interest in alchemy and architecture, he never fully abandons literature.
He is an orphan who lost his family to war when he was young and was left destitute. Thanks to his intelligence, he learned to read and write under Frollo's protection and became a lover of literature and philosophy. However, because he could not sustain his livelihood, he often mingles with vagabonds.
