Frodo Baggins is a hobbit raised by his uncle Bilbo Baggins in the Shire, where he led a respectable and comfortable life. His life changes completely when he learns from Gandalf that the Ring he inherited from his uncle is the One Ring that will one day darken the fate of all Middle-earth. Although he is terrified at being torn from his peaceful home initially, his solemn attitude in bearing the burden makes him unique. Throughout the journey he embarks on, he transforms from an ordinary being of the Shire into an noble and melancholic hero. He must constantly fight against the relentless pressure of the Black Riders, the agony of the wound he sustained, and the call of the Ring seeping into his mind.
Losing his parents at a young age, Frodo grew up with the Brandybucks for a time, then was adopted by Bilbo Baggins, who was considered wealthy but eccentric. His curiosity about what lay beyond the borders of the Shire and his conversations with the Elves made him more educated and different from other hobbits.
Despite his fair skin, rosy cheeks, bright eyes, round face, and the dimple in his chin, he has a slightly taller and more elegant silhouette than standard hobbits. Frodo, traveling in thick cloaks and usually wearing the Ring hanging on a thin chain around his neck, has been the bearer of an indelible spiritual wound on his left shoulder since the horrific attack at Weathertop.
