She lives in two different worlds, between Selim Pasha's mansion and the street of Sinekli Bakkal. Her deep love for her exiled father and her dedication to her values form the foundation of her character. By marrying Peregrini, a Western pianist, she personalizes the cultural synthesis of East and West in her own life.

Even playing with dolls was considered a sin and punished. She supported her household with the money she earned at a young age. When her father returned, she chose him, thereby securing her freedom.
A tall, slender, captivating young woman with chestnut eyes that hold flashes of green and gold. She mostly wears a 'black yeldirme' (clerical overcoat) and a muslin headscarf, like the women of the poor neighborhood artisan class. She wears no makeup or jewelry. She has smooth, slightly tan/bronze skin.
