Later, he took pity on the abandoned, ugly baby Quasimodo and raised him in the cathedral. For years, he kept himself away from women, worldly pleasures, and weaknesses, conducting vast research on alchemy and philosophy. However, upon seeing the gypsy girl Esmeralda dancing in the square in front of the cathedral, all his beliefs are shaken. The irrepressible passion he feels for the young girl drags his soul into a dark abyss. This impossible love and jealousy unleash the most terrible, destructive, and selfish feelings within him. Despite inflicting pain on himself and those around him, he cannot give up this dark passion.
