She is a former company typist who is thought to have escaped the brink of a life of vice with the compensation and aid she extracted from her father's company manager, Muzaffer, before eventually being married to Şevket. However, from the day she arrives as a bride, she tears the household apart. She drains Şevket's blood with her obsession with society life, invitations, luxury, and ostentation. She abandons her husband, who goes to prison for committing theft to keep up with her expenses, without the slightest bit of pity. Throughout the novel, she plays the role of the microbe of immoral, parasitic, and corrupt modernization that infiltrates the family.
She lost her father at a young age and struggled heavily with her ignorant mother, but after learning to type, she entered into immoral adventures at the company where she worked, including with the manager (Muzaffer).
Impressively flashy, with an excessively painted face; she loves low-cut and ostentatious outfits. She has a cringeworthy, flirtatious appearance, always focused on attracting the attention of others.
Şevket
To her, he is merely a source to satisfy her desires; she cuts ties the moment he goes to prison.
Ali Rıza Bey
She views him as a relic of a bygone era, an insignificant, pathetic old fool.
Hayriye Hanım
A lackey who serves her in the kitchen, whom she brings under control whenever she becomes shrewish.
