From the first second she learned she was accepted to the school of wizardry, she dedicated herself to her schoolbooks with immense ambition and discipline, becoming an expert in history, charms, and magical theory enough to crush her peers before the term even began. She left a highly authoritative, rote-learning, and snooty impression on Ron and Harry, whom she met while looking for Neville's toad on the train. Although her tendency to list what she knows to show others' ignorance rather than empathizing during their first contact makes her seem unsympathetic to her peers, what actually lies beneath is a fear of being a failure and an outcast in this closed community she entered as a Muggle-born.
