Oblomov is a Russian nobleman and landowner living in St. Petersburg in his early thirties. Although he is a representative of a glorious lineage, he was raised on the Oblomovka estate in his childhood without ever lifting a finger, surrounded by servants who waited on him hand and foot. When he stepped into his civil service career, he found the formal, hurried, and alien structure of St. Petersburg unbearable and resigned, retreating to rot in a makeshift armchair at home. He constantly makes plans but can never implement them. Though he was revived for a moment by the love of the young and energetic Olga, he could not keep up with the dynamic life the relationship promised and withdrew in remorse and fear. Eventually, in the house of his landlady Agafya, who took on all his worldly worries without demanding any effort from him, he drifted slowly toward death in a state of profound psychological and physical lethargy.
Born on the Oblomovka estate in a remote province of Russia; raised wrapped in cotton by his mother, grandmother, and servants. He had a childhood where he wasn't even allowed to put on his own socks, received a mediocre education from Stolz's father, and eventually entered the civil service in the capital, St. Petersburg, where, after failing, he locked himself in his home.
A man in his early thirties, of medium height, well-built but with muscles softened due to inactivity, and a pale complexion. His eyes have a dull expression born of indifference rather than thought. He wears a loose, Asian-style robe without a waist or tassels. On his feet are wide, soft slippers that can be easily slipped on when getting up or sitting down.
Zahar Trofimiç
His valet, with whom he argues, yet whom he takes refuge in like a parent or child; he is the most significant part of his lazy routine.
Andrey Karloviç Ştoltz
Friends since childhood. He is the only true friend who ensures he opens up to the outside world and treats him with respect.
Olga Sergeyevna İlyinskaya
His lover, who remains his greatest shame, his greatest enthusiasm, and the most beautiful opportunity he missed in life.
Agafya Matveyevna Pşenitsına
His sanctuary who absolutely insulates him from the troubles of the real world, and his final companion.
