He was born in 1856 in the town of Smiljan, Croatia, as the son of a Serbian Orthodox priest. With his extraordinary visualization ability, eidetic (photographic) memory, and an endless desire to work, he became one of the greatest geniuses of his era. After designing the polyphase alternating current motor in his mind in Europe, he emigrates to America. After working for Edison for a short time, he leaves, believing he has been deceived, and establishes his own laboratory. With Westinghouse's help, he manages to tame Niagara Falls by commercializing alternating current on a massive scale. However, his vision is always beyond the existing world (worldwide free energy and wireless communication). Due to his weak commercial acumen, hypersensitive psychology, obsessions, and stubbornness, most of his revolutionary ideas are attributed to others, and in the end, he bids farewell to life as a poor, marginalized genius.
In his early years, he witnessed his genius older brother Dane die in a horse accident and felt responsible for it. The ceaseless grief of his parents over the loss of Dane caused Tesla to develop a major superiority complex, constantly seeking their approval and affection. He frequently suffered from cholera and bouts of mental depression, spending his childhood struggling with loneliness, excessive reading, and fatal illnesses.
