Salur Kazan, son of Ulaş, is a powerful warrior in the position of Beylerbeyi, the undisputed leader of the Inner Oghuz. He is a wealthy and open-handed person, central to events, who distributes his goods to the beys once a year without batting an eye. Although he performs great deeds of heroism, he sometimes succumbs to his excessive self-confidence, arrogance, or negligence, dragging himself and his family into great disasters (being taken captive, his tribe being raided). Yet, even in the most desperate situations, he averts disasters with his stubborn courage and the help of other Oghuz beys. While strictly devoted to his religion, he is a hero of transparent spirit who harbors extraordinary emotional attachments to his wife and child.
Coming from a powerful lineage (son of Ulaş), Kazan has risen to the position of Beylerbeyi of the Oghuz nation through his long conquests and bravery. He has become legendary for the vastness of his wealth and the numerous battles he has won against infidels.
